Dance School Operations Manager

A fantastically well-organised people-person who is friendly, task-focused yet with a wider strategic outlook, to join our dynamic and busy team.  Our school is growing and now we really need a key new team leader who will lead the delivery of day to day administration and facilities of our school, so that the Principal can concentrate on student, educational and artistic matters.

What’s Involved:

You will be responsible for ensuring smooth and efficient day to day administration of the dance school – this includes enquiries, class registers, preparation of timetables and marketing materials, organising meetings and taking minutes.  You will be responsible for ensuring that the building and facilities are well-managed and safe for the users.  Duties will range from very small daily tasks to larger projects (such as the annual show or a building renovation) with budgetary control.  You will be responsible for day to day bookkeeping and preparation of financial reports.

Reporting to the Principal, many responsibilities are shared and tight team-work is needed to ensure smooth handover between staff on a daily basis so as to ensure that colleagues students, parents and hirers receive thoughtful continuity of consideration.

The studios and school are a multi-faceted working environment with periods of intense activity alternating with quiet and still.  Relishing both and making the best of both environments, being able to multi-task and switch conversations quickly are both skills and characteristics that will be given full-rein here!

What prior Experience is needed?

Strong administrative experience is essential.  Experience of managing others and some basic bookkeeping/accounts experience would be useful.   An enjoyment of dance would help!    We are looking for someone who is a discreet, imaginative problem-solver who can apply their mature, solution-oriented approach and is able to remain calm under pressure.  The right person will be equally comfortable dealing respectfully with both children and adults.  We will be seeking evidence of these qualities via previous experience and references.

Name of Role:  Dance School Operations Manager

Hours: 40 hours per week 5 days a week including Saturday morning.

Salary: By negotiation.

Who We are Looking For!

The right professional will be able to play (or learn to play) the RAD Syllabus music to a high standard, as well as a wide range of other music and styles as needed.  Ideally, the ability to improvise will be a key skill of the applicant.

Our pianists must be interested in supporting students of dance and the role that music plays in assisting with this education and experience.  We are looking for a music professional to join our team of teaching professionals so that together we can offer the best possible experience, education and outcomes in our ballet lessons.

What’s Involved!

Playing for classes on some weekday afternoons from 4pm and on Saturdays (schedule can change from term to term, or as arranged mutually).    Occasionally (up to twice a year) a whole or half day may be required for rehearsals or exam day sessions.

Through excellent knowledge of the syllabus music, and support to the teacher in selecting appropriate improvised or other accompaniments, the pianist will assist in inspiring students and in bringing out the desired movement & communication qualities.

At exam times, the pianist is required to accompany exam candidates (who they should know well) during their exam – able to demonstrate consistent pace, tempo, quality and knowledge of the syllabus music at a standard supportive to the candidate and by their own performance, to assist the candidate in bringing their best work on the exam day!

What prior Experience is needed?

Ideally you will have accompanied ballet classes already and have both a track record and references to support this.

However, we are absolutely willing to help train the right person who has little or no experience in accompanying classes but who would like to develop this as a career/skill and is keen to put in the time and effort required.

Through negotiation.  We are able to offer employment or to work with a pianist who is self-employed, depending on hours, commitment and personal circumstances.
