Latin & Ballroom

Children's Strictly: Classes for those interested in learning Social Dance, perhaps inspired by the celebrities & professionals alike on BBC 1s Strictly Come Dancing! Children will learn the basic steps and technique for ballroom and Latin style dance & then develop short routines. Students can be entered to take ISTD Medal Tests where they perform one or two dances they have learnt that term and they may also be entered for competition should they be keen.

We are proud to say that Colours of Dance students have an extremely high pass rate in Medal Tests.

Medal Tests can be undertaken at a variety of levels, appropriate to the ability and experience of the child, and it is normal to have children of different levels and experience in the same weekly class. The teacher will manage the challenge or standard of output required of each child on an individual basis within the class context. This makes for a lovely class dynamic, as peer-friendships can be maintained, even while skill levels within a peer-group might differ.

Ballroom and Latin Classes are all taught by Chrissie Allen-Moore of CAM Dance, an experienced dancer and competitor, and now fully qualified teacher. Chrissie has a relaxed and supportive style allowing each child to develop in their own way whilst learning correct technique. She offers opportunities to Colours of Dance pupils to compete when they are ready, through her own school, and in 2015 had 5 children competing into the second rounds of their levels in the ISTD National Finals in Blackpool.

Our Strictly Beginners class is suitable for ages 5+. Depending on age and dance experience, some children will be able to start at a higher level, please contact us to find out which level would be suitable for your child. We also have our Teen class which is aimed at ages 13-16yrs and is for beginners and improvers. This is also a transition class for those who are new to ISTD or are wanting better technique. Our Strictly classes will cover some or all of the following dance styles: Rumba, Cha Cha, Jive, Samba, Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot and Tango
